氮气在工业上的应用是很广泛的。富氮空气可以用来最大限度降低氧气稍微影响,例如可减少腐蚀或阻燃。很多应用场合并不需要超高纯氮气。低氧空气——氧含量低至约16%(正常空气中的氧气是21%)可降低计算机房内的火灾危险;食品储存在含氧浓度为3%至5%的环境中比较合适。

Industrial applications of nitrogen are diverse. Nitrogen-rich air is used to minimize the effects of oxygen, like reducing corrosivity or combustibility. Many application do not require ultra-pure nitrogen to realize benefits. Hypoxic air, used to reduce fire hazards in computer server rooms, has the oxygen levels reduced to about 16 percent (regular air oxygen is 21%) and food storage has benefits when the oxygen concentration is 3 to 5%.

Prism Membrane separators are used in systems that require the flexibility of being available immediately and in systems which are mobile, like on a remote compression skid or mounted to a truck.

Bananas are shipped in nitrogen-rich atmospheres to reduce spoilage. Apples are stored in nitrogen blanketed warehouses to increase shelf life.

Beer and wine are stored and transported with nitrogen to ensure long life and perfect effervescence.

Vehicle tires filled with nitrogen experience less pressure change due to temperature changes. Tire life increases.

Nitrogen is used to fill coal mines where automated equipment is operating. By eliminating the oxygen, explosions are minimized.
